On the 26th – 28th August 2011, Kev will be involved in the celebration of the 45th anniversary of the Wave Hill Walkoff at the traditional homelands of the Gurindji people in the Northern Territory.

The Ship Song Project

The Ship Song Project is a tribute to the Sydney Opera House that aims to raise awareness and the funds necessary to complete the original architect’s vision of the iconic building. A broad range of artists have joined together to reinterpret Nick Cave’s “Ship Song”. Performed by Neil Finn, Kev Carmody and The Australian Ballet, Sarah Blasko, John Bell, Angus and Julia Stone, Paul Kelly and Bangarra Dance Theatre, Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Opera Australia, Martha Wainwright, Katie Noonan and The Sydney Symphony, The Temper Trap, Daniel Johns and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.

Lockyer Valley recovery concert

Song Trails South artists Clare Bowditch, Kev Carmody, Stephen Cummings and Dave Faulkner will perform a free recovery concert in Gatton at the Lockyer Valley Cultural Centre in Gatton on Friday the 29th of July.

Queensland Music Festival 2011

Kev will form part of the team conducting the southern Song Trails music composition workshops, along with Clare Bowditch, Dave Faulkner from Hoodoo Gurus and Stephen Cummings from The Sports.

Attendance at the workshops is free. Pre-registration is necessary due to limited places and bookings can be made by online or by phone. Registrations open Monday 16 May from 9-00am and close Friday 8 July 5.00pm, 2011.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can expect to live substantially shorter lives than other Australians – up to 20 years less in some cases.

Babies born to Aboriginal mothers die at twice the rate of other Australian babies. And they experience higher rates of preventable illness such as heart disease, kidney disease and diabetes.
